Hometown Band Jazz

Categories: News,Stories

We have had 2 great jazz concerts this year!

Here are some videos from the concerts so you can reminisce or see what you missed.

Lamont Webb did an amazing job with Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia” at our Jazz under the Stars concert at the EB Ball Center.

It was a picture perfect night on the lawn of one of Muncie’s premier homes!

With it being the Bicentennial of Indiana this concert featured famous composers and arrangers from the Hoosier State.

The band also performed a wonderful rendition of Carmichael’s most recorded piece “Stardust”

Another  very famous Hoosier composer was Cole Porter. One of the most prolific song writers of his era.

This next video is a British arrangers rendition of “Begin the Beguine” performed by the big band.

Our perennial summer jazz concert at B.S.U. Arts Terrace was on July 14, The Jazz on the Terrace concert featured Myles Ogea as vocalist.

The forecast looked like it could storm, but the weather held out and it was a beautiful sunny evening.. (perhaps a bit too sunny)

Myles brought OL Blue Eyes Back with his covers from the great Frank Sinatra songbook.

Listen to him sing “Fly me to the Moon”

Myles a former Muncie native now lives in Florida with his wife Liz and their children.

It was great having him back to sing once again with the big band

In keeping with the Bicentennial here is the band with Myles singing the Cole Porter classic “Night and Day” ala Frank Sinatra

If you missed these concert don’t worry you have one more chance to see the band on October 30th.

The big band will be performing at Pruis Hall at BSU.

They have invited guest artist Ralph Pressler, professional Bass Trombonist direct from the stages of Las Vegas!

Some might remember his dad who taught at BSU

We will post more information on this concert as we get closer to the day.
